Frank Darrbo is a hapless fry cook. When his wife Sarah falls off the wagon and dumps him for Jacques, a drug dealer, Frank tries to get her back by reporting her kidnapped, grabbing her from Jacques' car, and wailing for her to return. After watching Christian TV and having a vision, he becomes a superhero to fight evil. He sews a costume, finds a weapon (a pipe wrench) and looks for crimes to stop. He has problems: his wrench inflicts real injury, so the cops want him for being a vigilante, his sense of boundaries is flawed, and Jacques' gang has guns. Libby, a clerk at a comic book store, becomes his sidekick, and it's time to go save Sarah. What chance do they have?
Frank D'Arbo is a short order cook who is married to recovering drug addict Sarah. He comes home one day to find that Sarah has left him and moved in with club owner Jacques. In his upset at this, Frank has a vision of the finger of God coming down to touch him. He is then inspired by a religious TV show about the Christian superhero The Holy Avenger. After getting advice from the comic-book store employee Libby, he makes a masked superhero costume to become The Crimson Bolt. Wielding a wrench, he goes out into the streets in costume and batters in the heads of drug dealers, pedophiles and those who force their way ahead of him in a queue. This gains publicity on the news. However, when he bursts into Jacques's house to rescue Sarah, he is shot and wounded. He seeks refuge with Libby who has suspected that he is The Crimson Bolt. After patching him up, she becomes immensely excited about what he is doing and makes her own costume with the intention of becoming his sidekick, naming herself Boltie. Arming themselves more heavily, the two of them set out on Frank's intended mission to rescue Sarah back from Jacques's clutches.<br/><br/>Whats with the low ratings , I don't know what movies you all saw, but this one was brilliant. Ellen Page is amazingBoltie , the oversexed sadist. I bought all th characters. The animated opening is brilliant times ten. Life is more like this than the movie "Kick Ass". Hero's with real flaws, real pain and an emotional issue the size of King Kong. He is rife with our imperfection. / The Crimson BoltI highly recommend this movie for every adult that fails in life, yet still struggles on. The last five minutes made me cry , you will too.
I really enjoyed this movie, first of all. I have a cynical sense of humor and I'm a big fan of superheroes. The plot reminded me of the movie "Kick-Ass", a normal guy who decides to become a superhero even though he has no super powers. But the thing about this movie was that it was unique in its own way, being that Frank (the main character)'s wife is a recovering drug and alcohol addict who falls into the wrong hands and leaves her husband for another man, Jock. This dark twist pretty much sets the tone for the movie, except that there's lots of comedy mashed in here and there. I enjoyed Libby's rash yet hilarious personality, but it did disturb me to a point when she seduced Frank. That being said, the movie had some down points in my opinion. I wasn't a big fan of the different sex scenes every couple minutes, after a while it started to get a bit old. And it saddened me watching Sarah collapse slowlythe movie went on,she was trying so hard to recover. I give them credit for the realism of the movie. If somebody without powers was attempting to be a superhero, they may very well get shot or killed,it was shown in this movie. I wasn't expecting Libby to die, though. That did upset me a bit, she was favorite character. But to give it a fair review and not base it on my feelings for just one character, it was a great movie. Good effects, (except for some of the blood), good acting, good casting (Kevin Bacon made a perfect drug dealer) and an altogether enjoyable movie to watch if you don't mind a lot of obscene humor and gore.
This depraved charmer offers enough to admire and a specialized hipster crowd will enjoy it, if to a mutedly positive effect.
